Overview
Lisa Wells Jacobson is a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication. She received her PhD from UC Berkeley’s Department of Film & Media in 2022. Her scholarship asks how contemporary television writes history. Her recent work investigates how US period television serials like The Americans (FX, 2013-2018) dramatize discontent with today’s digitally connected world by imagining a slower, more human-scale past. She is currently researching the rise of openly anachronistic historical films and television series in the “post-truth” era. Her writing has appeared in Film Quarterly and is forthcoming in New Review of Film and Television Studies and The Oxford Handbook of Global Realisms.
