LMC professor Lisa Yaszek Speaks about Science Fiction Film in USA Today

Professor Lisa Yaszek was recently interviewed by USA Today about the recent renaissance in smart, original science fiction films that are critically acclaimed, but do not perform as well at the box office as blockbusters such as Star Wars. Yaszek explains that different kind of science fiction stories appeal to different kind of audiences. While stories such as Star Wars ultimately focus on "universal human" issues such as parent-child relations and quests for love and justice, films such as Arrival and the forthcoming Annihilation lean into the unknown and ask us to think about what a universe not centered on humans might look like.
