COURSE OVERLOADS and PERMITS
All Georgia Tech courses are capped at a certain numbers of students. Course overload is a permission to register for a course that is full.
Why can't I register for ENGL 1101 and 1102 for the fall?
All seats in ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102 in the fall term are reserved for INCOMING freshmen. Returning students may register for remaining seats in the August phase of registration. No seats will likely remain in ENGL 1102 in August, so returning students should plan to take ENGL 1102 in the spring, when we will offer approximately 70 sections. Graduating seniors may contact shannon.dobranski@lmc.gatech.edu for assistance.
When should I take ENGL 1102?
All students should plan to take ENGL 1102 in the spring semester after they have passed ENGL 1101. In the fall semester, all seats in ENGL 1101 and 1102 are reserved for incoming freshmen. Returning students may register only for the handful of seats left over in the August phase of registration.
How may I request an overload or a permit for an ENGL class?
LMC does NOT issue overloads for ENGL 1101 or 1102. Please choose from among the available seats for these classes. Graduating seniors may contact shannon.dobranski@lmc.gatech.edu if they have not yet taken one of these courses.
How may I request an overload for LMC 3403?
LMC is using the new wait list function for LMC 3403 and no longer issuing overloads for that class. Please use the wait list feature to request space as it becomes available. Graduating seniors who are unable to find a seat may contact Shannon Dobranski at shannon.dobranski@lmc.gatech.edu.
Why are some LMC 3403 courses major restricted?
Some LMC 3403 courses are about subjects that best suit the needs of a specific population. During Phase I of registration, LMC will restrict enrollment to just those students.
The following LMC 3403 courses are major restricted for the spring:
LMC 3403 MG1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6--restricted to MGT sophomore, juniors, and seniors
LMC 3403 CS--restricted to CS majors
The remaining 15 LMC 3403 courses are NOT major restricted.
Why can't I register for LMC 2100, LMC 2200, or LMC 3314?
STAC and CM majors and FME and WSTS minors need these courses for graduation. It is unlikely that we will lift the major restriction for these courses.
How may I request an overload or a permit for an LMC class?
Students may request overloads and permits for LMC courses on the OSCAR override request system. Permit requests will be considered each Monday and Thursday until registration ends.
How often are overload and permit requests processed?
Overloads and permits requests for LMC courses will be updated twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays during the registration period. LMC does NOT issue overloads for ENGL 1101 or 1102.
Why are LMC courses such as LMC 2100, 2700, 2720, 2730, and 3314 major restricted?
STAC and CM majors need these courses for graduation. These classes will NOT be opened to other students.
Why are LMC 3204 and LMC 4204 permit restricted?
These poetry-writing courses require permission from the instructor for registration. Please contact travis.denton@lmc.gatech.edu to request a permit.
